PPGEnf strengthens internationalization with mission in Peru

The Postgraduate Program in Nursing (PPGEnf) of the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) held an international mission to the National University of Cajamarca, in Peru. The event took place from January 11 to 18, 2025, and the opening ceremony was attended by UFPI professors, senior management of Peruvian universities, and doctoral students who benefited from the Interinstitutional Doctorate (DINTER).

Professor Rosilane Magalhães, coordinator of the PPGEnf, provided more details about the mission: “The activity was planned since the approval of the DINTER, through the Public Notice of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), in March 2024”, she stated. DINTER has two Peruvian universities as cooperating institutions: the Autonomous University of Chota (UNACH) and the Andean University of Cusco, with Professor Kelly Myriam Jiménez de Aliaga as the local coordinator.

The coordinator of DINTER, Professor Eliete Moura, highlighted the objective of the partnership: “The mission’s main objective was the intensive development of three curricular subjects: ‘Workshop on Knowledge Production in Health and Nursing’ (mandatory), and ‘Epidemiology in Health’ and ‘Prevention and Control of Infections in Health Services’ (optional),” she explained. The subjects were taught by UFPI professors Rosilane Magalhães, Eliete Moura and Telma Evangelista.

In addition to the classes, the professors participated in meetings with the directors of the National University of Cajamarca, who were very pleased with the partnership and expressed an interest in expanding it to other areas. “They expressed a desire to expand the agreement to other areas besides health, such as engineering and accounting, fields in which there is a great demand for development,” revealed Professor Telma Evangelista.

UFPI has been committed to promoting the internationalization of its graduate programs, aiming at continuous growth, knowledge sharing and experience exchange. The PPGEnf DINTER is the University's first international doctorate. “It was a very important initiative, and although there were several challenges in developing an international DINTER – such as issues of communication, distance, language and culture – we overcame them all and the benefits generated were immense”, reported Professor Telma.

“We were very well received and we thank the Federal University of Piauí, the National University of Cajamarca and the Federal Nursing Council (COFEN) for their support for the success of this international mission, which contributed to the dissemination of research and graduate studies in Nursing in Brazil, enabling impeccable logistics”, highlighted Professor Rosilane Magalhães.

Finally, Professor Eliete Moura, coordinator of DINTER at PPGEnf, reinforced: “We are open to proposals for future partnerships between the National University of Cajamarca and the Federal University of Piauí, for the construction and implementation of new initiatives that integrate the senior management of both institutions.”
