The Mimosa genus, belonging to the Fabaeceae family, is composed approximately 540 species, some are popularly known as Jurema and in traditional medicine they have numerous indications for use. Studies report that these species are rich in alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids and terpenoids and saponins. Aiming to contribute to the studies, the species M. pteridifolia, M. tenuiflora and M. verrucosa were selected to carry out comparative phitochemical and biological studies. Phytochemical screening of ethanolic extracts of barks showed the presence of condensed tannins, saponins and catechins in all extracts. Through the UPLC-QToF-MS/MS analysis of the extracts, it was possible to characterize nine compounds (1-9), which belong to the classes of alkaloids, tannins, proanthocyanidins, flavonoids and triterpene saponins. All extracts showed very high levels of phenolic compounds, moderate antioxidant activity, however, they showed low values of total flavonoids. The extracts of the three species showed weak inhibition against the HCT-116 and MDA-MB231 tumor lines. The anticholinesterase inhibitory assay showed that the extracts exhibit excellent inhibition with IC50 values between 2.35-5.73. The toxicity of the extracts was confirmed by biocompatibility assay using normal L929 cells. New studies must be carried out to identify the active principles and investigate the biological action of each one.
