Presentation
The Graduate Program in Biotechnology (PPGBiotec) at the Federal University of Delta do Parnaíba (UFDPar) offers "stricto sensu" academic training at the Master's and Doctoral (PhD) levels. Its primary objective is to train highly qualified professionals to engage in scientific research and higher education teaching. With a focus on developing technical and scientific skills, the program fosters the creative and innovative capabilities of its students, preparing them to tackle complex challenges and contribute significantly to the advancement of biotechnology. Furthermore, PPGBiotec aims to provide comprehensive and interdisciplinary training, promoting a solid theoretical and practical foundation that equips students to develop biotechnological solutions aimed at improving health and quality of life. PPGBiotec is structured around two main research lines, each addressing essential aspects of biotechnology. The first line, titled "Chemistry and Prospecting of Molecules with Therapeutic Potential," focuses on the discovery and development of new bioactive compounds with various applications, including pharmacological uses and material development. Researchers in this line explore the diversity of molecules from natural and synthetic origins, aiming to identify materials and substances with innovative therapeutic properties. The research conducted in this area spans from the identification and characterization of compounds to testing their efficacy and safety, directly contributing to the development of new treatment options for a wide range of diseases. The prospecting of molecules with therapeutic potential is highly relevant, as it enables the identification of new biological targets, the development of more efficient and specific drugs, as well as materials with broad applications in health, agriculture, and material sciences. The second research line, "Innovation in Disease Diagnosis and Treatment," focuses on creating advanced technologies for diagnosing and treating diseases, seeking solutions that can be efficiently applied in the healthcare system. This line encompasses the development of biomarkers for early diagnosis as well as the implementation of innovative therapies, including the use of sensors and emerging technologies such as nanotechnology and molecular biology. Additionally, researchers in this line contribute to the understanding of the pathophysiology of various comorbidities by utilizing biotechnological tools. The combination of basic science with practical application allows researchers in this field to operate at the forefront of knowledge, driving advances with the potential to transform medical practice and improve public well-being. With these two core areas, PPGBiotec has established itself as a center of excellence in research, innovation, and the training of professionals prepared to contribute to scientific and technological development in the field of biotechnology, particularly in the state of Piauí.
